DRINKS/SHAKES

Drinks can consist of an assortment of healthy vegetables and fruits by using a juicer. By juicing, you get all the benefits of eating a raw diet, but just not possible for people who have swallowing difficulties. If deciding to juice, I will recommend only using organic fruits and vegetables for the ultimate benefit.

Shakes are a great place to “hide” nutritional supplements. Try to purchase your supplements in liquid or powder form for ease of use. Simply add your supplements to your base shake and you are good to go. Supplements that have a strong taste are best to be added to shakes that contain nut butters or other strong flavor, such as chocolate or coffee.

To reduce the risk of inflammation, we make our shakes with almond milk, but you can replace with any non-dairy milk or regular milk. Shakes are also where you can enhance your calorie count by adding protein powder or adding high calorie nut butters, which are a good source of healthy fats. Here is a place where you can get creative and have fun trying different combinations.

Some of my favorites are:

Peanut butter & Jelly Shake (just like the sandwich minus the bread)

3/4 cup almond milk

½ scoop of protein powder

1 tbsp. peanut butter or other nut butter

1 tbsp. raspberry jelly or your personal favorite

½ frozen banana

Place all ingredients in blender until combined

Coffee Shake (better than Starbucks)

½ cup almond milk

1 coffee ice cube (brew strong coffee and freeze in an ice cube tray. Store cubes in freezer in a freezer safe container)

2 scoops of non-dairy coffee ice cream

½ scoop of protein powder

Place all ingredients in blender until combined

Pina Colada (just feel that tropical breeze)

¼ cup almond milk

¼ cup coconut water

¼ cup fresh pineapple

1 frozen banana

Place all ingredients in blender until combined

Pumpkin Pie Shake (enjoy this favorite year round)

2 Pumpkin ice cubes (freeze pumpkin in an ice cube tray, store cubes in freezer in a freezer safe container)

½ cup almond milk

1 tsp. of pumpkin pie spice

Blueberry Blast (ahh, just like summer in Maine)

½ cup frozen blueberries

½ cup almond milk

1 TBS maple syrup

1 tsp cinnamon

1TBS avocado

Mango Madness (such a tropical dream)

Fruit of one mango

1 cup of coconut water

2 cubes of coconut milk

½ frozen banana
